NextGen gaming mobile slots are a varied lot. Some are wonderful, some are the equivalent of the wallflowers no one wants to dance with. The original Medusa slot is not that wallflower. She’s the belle of the ball, the queen of the island, the diamond in the NextGen crown.
So it made sense when we got word in the wind that this online casino software was making a Medusa II slot machine. It was bound to happen. However, with the news that NextGen was also planning on releasing the much anticipated Judge Dredd machine this summer, we were a little surprised that we are getting this epic new game so soon.
Surprised, but very happy indeed. We don’t have a video to show you this time, but here is what we know.
Update 18th June 2014: You can now play Medusa II slot online at Leo Vegas and Guts casinos.
What we know about Medusa 2 slot
Well for one, it’s going to be out on both mobile and online at the same time and is anticipated for release June 18th. When exactly…? Well we haven’t got a confirmed date yet by anyone we would trust with our gaming children. We expect end of June (ie. third week in) as that’s when NextGen traditionally like to release their new slot games.
Secondly, it’s going to be sexier. The plot of the game is simple, Medusa II mobile slot is all about: “a misunderstood being of ravishing beauty who merely wants to live her cursed life in solitude. Medusa should be celebrated for her mystery and beauty while headstrong warriors will be turned to stone.” So the themes, look and feel will be similar to the original slot. Maybe a little ‘darker’ as all good sequels should be.
Thirdly, it’s going to be a 243 ways to win slot and of medium volatility. No surprise here, the original slot was pretty high variance, so Medusa two slot will keep that high winning jackpot amounts to reel players into her cave.
Bonus games and features
What surprised us the most was the list of bonus features for this game.
You get random stacked wilds. So far so standard. The original Medusa game also used these to our great advantage. You’ll also get 10 free spins, but unlike the original, the sequel doesn’t appear to have extra free spin games you can win with bigger multipliers. So what’s going to make it stand out?
Locked Reels
What are locked reels? Good question. We went a little deeper and discovered that Medusa II is going to have the same mechanics as NetEnt’s Twin Spin slot. By far the most successful 2014 release from Net Entertainment, players have been flocking to Twin Spin since it came out back in January.
Basically, at any point during either game, up to 5 reels can ‘lock’ into place with identical symbols. So you can get 2, 3, 4 or 5 reels all showing exactly the same symbols as the other reels turn. This can lead to some impressive numerous 5 of a kind wins.
And what Medusa 2 mobile slot has on Twin Spin is that she comes with a free spin bonus round where every spin guarantees you at least 2 locked reels. So whilst 10 free spins may not sound like a lot, we suspect that it will lead to wins on every spin. Many will not be worth much but as a medium to high variance slot… it could be quite a pay off.
Which NextGen casino will have the game?
Leo Vegas will almost certainly have Medusa II before anyone else. They use the NextGen / Nyx casino platform, which means they get all their games to ‘test’ with their players before they are widely released. Plus you get 200 free spins on Starburst whilst you wait for this new slot game to show up.
Vera&John will also no doubt add this mobile game as soon as it can, as will Guts casino and Mr Green.
Which will we choose to go play at? Well, which one did we highlight and give you a link to click? We like being the first to try any game, so it makes sense to pick the casino that will get it first. But hey, you can always simply read our mobile casino reviews and find out which is the best for you.
But don’t wait too long, otherwise you’ll miss the game and wish you’d been turned to stone.
