This is our second most anticipated release of the year by the game software IGT.
Our first is the new Family Guy slot machine due out on the 10th of December 2015. And no, it’s not because they are big brand names, it’s because IGT make a special effort with their branded slots.
And by special, we mean the kind of video slot that is full of surprises. And given the information we’ve been given about the Sherlock Holmes: Hunt for Blackwood game, surprises is almost certainly what we should expect.
Here’s everything we know for sure.
It’s based on the 2009 Warner Bros Movie not the TV Series
Hey, we didn’t say some of the stuff we know would be revolutionary did we? But don’t worry, more is to come.
First, however, let’s have a look at a video preview of what awaits.
Now, you might not agree that Robert Downey Jr. makes the best Sherlock. Some of us in the office has been well and truly Cumberbatched for that to happen.
But let’s not forget that this movie came along before the TV show, and you can’t deny it made for a fun, rollicking, ride.

And whilst we can’t say for sure until we’ve played it, at first glance it feels like IGT have managed to capture the essence of the original movie; the adventure, the fun, the suspense, all in one casino slot machine.
An incredibly well done theme
Watson and Holmes will be present, as expected, as is Mary (Watson’s fiancee) and Chief of Police Le Strade. You get clip scenes from the movie, as well as beautiful animations as you spin.
Lord Blackwood does make an appearance in the bonus game, but Irene Adler is missing overall. Not that you’ll notice, as each symbol has been uniquely rendered to bring the movie to life.
From Big Ben, to Watson’s bulldog, to the violin, pipe, and pocket watch, this is as classic a Victorian Sherlock as you’d hope.
Certainly better than Playtech’s dismal attempt at the theme with the Sherlock’s Mysteries slot, and more realistic than Yggdrasil Holmes and The Stolen Stones jackpot game.
Though that last one is not half bad.
What features can we expect over 30 paylines?
A lot of features. We’re not sure what they all mean, but this is what we’ve gotten from IGT and watching the video.
- 30 paylines on 5 reels with a fixed 60-coin bet
- Mystery Multipliers can multiply wins by 2x-10x on any base game spin
- Teamwork feature can combine Holmes and Watson symbols for larger wins
- Earn cash or one of 2 intriguing bonuses in the click me Puzzle bonus
- Keep spinning the wheel to earn cash in The Blackwood Wheel Bonus
- Enjoy 10 or 15 free spins in The Hunt Bonus with extra wilds
That’s a lot of bonus features to fit into one little casino game.
What makes this Sherlock Video Slot truly exciting
This year IGT have released a huge number of slot games. Two are some of our favourite of the year, the incredibly volatile Prowling Panther, and the mobile only Sushi Yum Yum Extra Wasabi.
- Cleopatra
- Transformers: Battle for Cybertron
- Crown of Egypt
- Prowling Panther
Do you know what these two have in common? They are both 720 ways to win slots.
Now, that’s not to say that we haven’t seen some other 2015 IGT games that are decent, just that the superb one followed a clear pattern.
Personally, we have high hopes that the Sherlock Holmes Hunt For BlackWood machine will be the one to break it. We want a 4, or even 5, star slot review here.
The reasons are simple; this feels like a well balanced game; one that provides plenty of opportunity for big wins, whilst still giving you break necking action that will keep you spinning.
What could make or break this game
IGT sometimes have a tendency to make you wait a hell of a long time before any of the features trigger.
That won’t be a problem here. Mostly because this Sherlock slot looks so packed, you’ll be hard pressed not to find a feature at some point.
The problem might come if you have to wait a long time to trigger the bonus features that give you the biggest wins (the free spins, at a guess?) or if the multiplier on the base game is more for show, than real win.
It’s all well and good saying that a random multiplier of 1x to 10x could happen at any spin, but if 1x appears more often than 10x, you might start wondering if you are chasing down the blind alleys of London, instead of getting your rich rewards.
The first big blockbuster online slot from IGT
IGT have lots of famous games, mostly because they have been creating slot machines since back in the dawn of time, when Vegas was but a pub in the middle of a dessert.
20 free spins on Starburst when you register + €£1,200 in bonuses over 5 deposits
So they know what they are doing. But when they moved to the mobile casino space, they first moved their ‘iconic’ games over. Games that have established themselves in players minds, like the beautiful Cleopatra, the MegaJackpots Siberian Storm, or the much loved Kitty Glitter.
Big brand game names, like Star Trek, Jeopardy, or Ghostbusters, stayed as online slots.
And whilst we’ve given up hope of getting those on mobile, moving forward, every release will now be on both mobile and online. Include this beast of a game.
IGT if you are reading this; no pressure, but how we view every big game release from now on will depend on how well you render the Sherlock Holmes slot on mobile.
