Update 20/05/2015 A little later than expected you can now play the new Psycho mobile slot over at Guts mobile casino or read our Pyscho slot review before you play.
So what can we expect from these two new slot games? Excellent question.
And whilst we are here to answer all your deepest desires when it comes to slot, what got us excited this time around wasn’t what we expected.
Because we were very happy indeed to hear that the Psycho slot was going to be out as soon as March 2015, but that wasn’t the game that took us by surprise.
Instead, we were wonderfully taken by The Spin Lab, which, we’ve been told, has an exceptional free spin bonus feature.
We tell you what we know, what to expect, and which, we think, is the most exciting release of the new NextGen Gaming slots.
More About Psycho
We begin with the slot game that we’ve been waiting for since we got the first exclusive photos glimpses back in January.
Based on the classic 1960’s Hitchcock film by the same name, Universal pictures gave NextGen the rights to create a slot machine that feels authentic to the film.
And ironically, they made in it full colour, rather than black and white. Which actually works surprisingly well.
It feels more 1960s than the movie itself, all pastel colours, murky backgrounds, and authentic unnerving sounds.
A classic game
Having looked at the features involved, this is actually a fairly low key game for the NextGen lot. Not that that’s a bad thing. Simply that they’ve kept things simple.
With 25 paylines over 5 reels, you’d kinda expect the unexpected in this classic thriller tale.
But much like the movie, which was unique at it’s time but been copied in tense and style a hundred times since, so NextGen have created a classic video slot which keeps the basics, but turns up the volume.
The slot bonus features we can expect
- The random wilds are stabbed on the screen and can give you a multiplier of, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 times your line bet.
- Win 10, 15 or 20 free spins on 3, 4 or 5 scatters respectively.
- During free spins wilds are more abundant.
- These come with multipliers, but tend to be higher and can go up to 40x your line bet.
- Double or quadruple your bet in the gamble option.
What do we think?
This is the NextGen version of a safe bet.
Now don’t get us wrong, that doesn’t mean it won’t be any good. It just means that they’ve been given a big brand name and they went with what was familiar to players.
And what’s familiar is lots of wilds and multipliers.
We can’t tell the variance of the game at the moment, but if we had to make a guess, we’d probably say around medium.
Again, it’s the safe bet.
More About The Spin Lab slot
The dark horse in the running is The Spin Lab slot machine, a creature that’s unlike any of the phone and mobile tablet slots that we’ve seen so far.
Perhaps one exists, but off the top of our heads, we’ve never seen anything like it.
And not because this 25 paylines slot has some strange way of playing.
On these five reels, you’ll get 10 to Ace symbols, with DNA, molecules and microchips all making an appearance. Nothing unusual here.
Ever seen the 1995 film Hackers with Johnny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie? You know, the graphics when you’re seeing what’s inside of a computer? That’s kind of the theme, but with more science.
You get the idea.
But it’s not about the theme
Because this is all about the slots free spins feature. Which has a very unique twist to it.
Here you get the chance to choose from a possible of 27 different free spin features. Sound crazy? That’s because it is.
We can’t write about all the games features. You’ll have to wait for our full review and for us to play in order to know which is best.
10 free spins on Jack & the Beanstalk + 100% up to 500 at Vera&John
But you essentially get to pick from three rows of options, each option giving you something different.
One combination could be 5 free spins, where the high paying symbols come stacked, with extra wilds, and pays both ways.
Or another combination could be 10 free spins, where the high paying symbol becomes a scatter and you get a multiplier on the wild.
Or any of the other 27 possible variations. And you get to choose. That’s the important part.
What do we think?
So we were excited about the Psycho video slot. And we still are.
But now we are even more excited about The Spin Lab game. Because for once, you are given true control over the bonus features which you hope will get you the best results.
Will it be a little too complicated and convoluted for newcomers to slot machines? Probably.
In the other hand NextGen promise that the free spins will trigger often AND you’ll get a way to track every possible feature and combination and see your results. So play long enough and you’ll quickly see a pattern of what works best for you.
Add that there’s a maximum prize of 50,000 in cash. That certainly caught our scientific eye.
Plus that they’ve given it a dangerous, but not deadly, mid to high variance level. All in all, the Spin Lab could end up being the best of the two releases.
Maybe.
