How To Play Game of Thrones Mobile Slot
It’s not winter that’s coming, it’s a simple yet incredibly good fun Game of Thrones mobile slot that can be played as both a 15 payline or a 243 ways to win machine.
Unquestionably this release is, in our opinion, Microgaming’s best mobile slot release of 2014. We should get that out of the way right here.
And so this Game of Thrones slot review isn’t here to convince you to try the game (because you should) but to try and get you to figure out which of the two versions of the mobile slot game you should play – the more difficult 15 payline or the far more fashionable 243 ways to win. Our answer may surprise you.
The disappointing theme and some GoT mobile slot problems
We love the series this Game of Thrones slot game is based on. And whilst many players complain that they couldn’t listen to the opening music for that long, we think it give the game gravitas and excitement. We could listen to it all day long.
Shame then, that on some Apple devices and updates, the sound doesn’t come through. So if you want sound, test, test, test! Android phones and tablets seem to have less problems.
Add the fact that the gamble feature seem to be completely missing from the mobile phone slot and, yeah, we’d say this game is a little bit better to play at your favourite online casino.
Thank-fully the theme is as beautiful on the small screen as it is on the larger theme, if only they had used a few more of the characters on the show to spice up the high card symbols and house sigils. We suppose that as everyone dies in the end, it would be hard to ensure that character would still be alive by the end of the seasons.
Which Game of Thrones video slot should you play?
Straight away, you’ll notice in our stats below that the 243 ways to win slot machine has a higher maximum win amount.
That’s because if you get the highest paid symbols over the screen with a 5x multiplier on free spins, you get more in 243 ways to win than over 15 paylines. That’s simple maths. More paylines = more potential wins.
And so, by default, it is by far the easiest game to play for players at all levels, from newbies to experts.
Yet it’s 15 paylines for us all the way.
Our reasons are simple:
- More flexible betting range, going from 0.01 to 0.10. 243 ways only goes up to 0.02.
- The highest win for one line is higher on the 15 payline, at 200 in cash rather than 50 in cash. In the free spins thats 1,000 in cash for one payline VS 250 for the 243 ways one.
And yes, as you can bet multiple coins, so there’s still plenty of betting choice in the bigger ways to win slot. And yes, the reason you win less is because it’s easier to trigger wins in the 243 ways to win. And sure, we suspect we’ll play both if one isn’t paying out as much as the other.
But think about how often you get multiple wins on a 243 ways to win? Not as often as you think. Isn’t it better to get those single win counts over 15 paylines?
Stacked wilds and free spin multipliers
Not to mention that with the stacked wilds across all the reels, it means that getting multiple wins over the 15 payline game is very possible, and all the more thrilling as it hits with more passion.
Yet on both Game of Thrones mobile slots we’ve had glorious wins, some over 400x our bet.
Though mostly, with the 243 ways you get them during the free spins, whilst with the 15 paylines, you can get them in the base game just as easily.
It’s a personal choice, and one we are willing to argue with ourselves repeatedly until we stab ourselves with our own needle sword.
Time to make your own decision.

Game of Thrones Bonus Features
Stacked Wilds: The Game of Thrones slot logo is the wild and comes stacked across all the reels. Our biggest wins of the game were due to this beautiful little symbol showing up across several reels.
Scatters & Random Prizes: The Iron Throne is the scatter symbol. Three will trigger the free spins (see below) but even two is more interesting than usual. Because you'll see a dragon egg on screen giving you an extra cash prize. It's never more than 2x or 5x your bet, but hey, still better than nothing.
Scatters & Free Spins: Get three or more scatters and you'll be taken to a second screen where you'll pick between the following free spin bonuses:
- HOUSE BARATHEON: 8 free spins with 5x Multiplier and Baratheon symbol stacked to 3.
- HOUSE LANNISTER: 10 free spins with 4x multiplier and Lannister symbol stacked to 4.
- HOUSE STARK: 14 free spins with with 3x multiplier and Stark symbol stacked to 5.
- HOUSE TARGARYEN: 18 free spins with 2x multiplier and Targaryen symbol stacked to 6.
We've had mixed success with all. Needless to say, Baratheon is by far the most lucrative way to win the most, but also the easiest to win nothing at all.
Personally we've had more luck with Lannister mode, though Stark has come through for us from time to time. Targaryen guarantees you at least 10x your bet win, often more.
