This is not a Double Stacks slot review – that will come in September when we’ve had a chance to play it for a while and let you know exactly what we think.
What we have here instead is a preview; NetEnt has given us a video and plenty of information for us to dig deep into the game’s mechanic and find out what we all want to know.
Should you play on Double Stacks when it comes out on the 24th of September?
Everything you need to know about the Double Stacks slot
Before you do anything else, if you can (ie. your not at work and your boss is looking over your shoulder) have a quick look at this 3-minute video:
Are we the only ones who wanted something with a little more imagination after the surprise news that we would be getting a Berryburst and Berryburst max slot?
This Double Stacks slot has all the classic symbols from a Fruit machine. Plums, melons, lemons, cherries, sevens and bars all come together to give you a fairly generic looking game.

So to start with we are not massively over enthused with the new slot’s theme. But then again, we guess, the Twin Spin mobile game isn’t much more inventive but it won us over in the end.
So maybe there’s hope for this new NetEntertainment slot machine after all.
What is the Double Stacks slot?
The simple version?
Double Stacks is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 10 fixed paylines. The game has wilds, scatters, a free spin bonus round and stacks of high paying symbol which can ‘double’ in numbers.
And maybe that’s enough that just from looking at this classic looking gambling machine, you’ll be playing come September 24th regardless.
The basic stats and facts of this new game:
- 5×3 reel slot machine with 10 paylines
- Max win: 1,000 times your bet
- Medium variance slot game
- 3, 4 or 5 scatters trigger 5, 15 or 30 free spins
- High Paying symbol can split and count as two symbols
- High Paying symbol come stacked
- Wild comes stacks and can split during the free spins
- 5 double symbols on all five reels will create a 10 of a kind win
In short, interesting, but it’s going to take a little more convincing for us to get onboard.
Specifically, we want to know what this Double Stacks bonus feature is all about.
How does the Double Stacks feature work?
Most NetEnt machines have one key feature that makes it stand out from the rest.
The Divine Fortune game has those dropping wilds, the Emoji Planet slot has those meters that fill up and give you bonuses, whilst the Jumanji board game gives an interesting twist to a gambling machine.
What makes Double stacks unique is the Double Stack feature; not that the high paying symbols come stacked – that you’ll find in plenty of other machines.
The Double Stack feature occurs when one of those stacked symbols fully lands on any of the five reels. Then, the symbols will ‘split’ and count as two symbols.
So just one more symbol on the payline will give you a 3 of a kind win, potentially.
The draw is that you can get 10 of a kind symbol wins
If you land the same symbols stacked across all reels, they will split, and then you’ll get a 10 symbol win on all 10 paylines.
If that symbol happens to be the diamond or the wild, that will pay out 1,000 times your bet.
The problem will be getting all those stacked symbols to line up, and as for the wilds… well, they only come stacked during the free spin bonus rounds.
Which gives those scatters a little extra punch, to be fair, but will it be enough to keep us playing.

Wait… isn’t there another NetEnt game with 10 of a kind wins?
Yeap. It’s called the Flowers slot machine, and it has fun, cute characters that either come as single or double symbols.
This new NetEnt game has the advantage that it has stacks of symbols, something you rarely get in Flowers. So it’s not without its own fun twist, but we’re not sure it will be enough to draw us in.
After all, we quite like Flowers, though if we are honest, it’s not one we revisit all that often.
But it is a firm favourite with many NetEnt casino lovers out there, and the Double Stacks video slot could be a nice addition to the family?
Are we excited about this new NetEnt phone slot?
Honestly, this is probably one of the least interesting releases from NetEnt in 2018.
We could be wrong – to keep comparing it to Twin Spin, that was also a simple game with one feature and classic symbols.
So perhaps, once we start playing we will be overjoyed by the stacks of symbols, the cheerful fruit, and those big wild wins in the free spins.
We just hope they don’t do the whole ‘max’ version where you get a higher variance of this game. Please let BerryBurst slot be the first and last of that weird experiment.
What game and online casino should I play?
If, like us, neither Berryburt or Double Stacks is rocking your boat this August and September, the only thing we can recommend is that you head back to their back catalogue for something fun.
We’ve mentioned Jumanji, which we loved and only came out this year, and you could even try Flowers if you wanted to see what those double symbols could create.
If you want to play something that’s not your usual Gonzo Quest or Starburst our advice would be the fun Kawaii styled Koi Princess slot or the very classic looking Kings of Slots game.
And the best place to play? Vera and John Casino of course; they have a fantastic site, a great selection of games and a very generous exclusive welcome bonus.
